The Explorer story began in the early 1950s, when early versions of the watches were worn on the Everest expedition, and has remained uninterrupted in the Rolex catalogue ever since. This is a special watch as it is truly the last of the plexi glass and matte dial sports Rolex watches so beloved by collectors. By 1989 all the other sports watches had moved to sapphire glasses and glossy dials and for this reason we believe these watches are true future collectibles. The case is really strong all round, with thick lugs. The Mk3 matte dial features tritium lume and the iconic painted 3-6-9 numerals and is in flawless condition. The watch is fitted with a solid-link Oyster bracelet in awesome condition with a clasp stamped ‘N 4’ and reference 580 endlinks. The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
